GOLDHEIST
Filthy
You wreck me
Like a ship going down
You tell me everything I want to hear
Then you can’t be found
And I’m foolish
‘Cause I never learn
However long I freeze you out
This flame continues to burn
And I thought
The years could wash me clean
But I’m as filthy with feelings for you
As I’ve always been
You’re magic
Like a desert mirage
A glimmer of something ahead
Then it turns to dust
You’re a liar
But it seems like truth
The smoke and mirrors
A heartbeat that quivers
But where’s the proof?
And I thought
The years could wash me clean
But I’m as filthy with feelings for you
As I’ve always been
As I’ve always been

Mister Robinson
Mister Robinson’s a Capricorn like Jesus
he’d be a happy man if he knew how to
turn water into wine, water into wine
he likes Fleetwood Mac
and selected tracks from Elton John
but his favourite song
is one of mine
and he says that he’s found God
but it’s hard to tell
I wonder if he’s caught between the heaven of the bottle
and the fires of hell
Mister Robinson’s a picky pescatarian
and he fortifies his coffee in the morning
to get him through the day, to get him through the day
he doesn’t like spicy foods
and his diet’s strictly gluten free,
and dairy free,
and sugar free
but he used to be a model
so I guess he’s just watching his weight
he still scrubs up pretty good
for a court date
Mister Robinson likes to give me presents
but he won’t confess their provenance
it’s probably better not to ask, better not to ask
he’s a knight in shining armour
and he wants to be a farmer
and he wants to get a cat
oh there are so many dreams
under that Akubra hat
and I hope he finds a way to a better path
but for now he is my friend who lives in the park

Love Letter to a Year Most Bizarre
when I don't know how to spend my day
I go to Bunnings and spend my government pay
buying flowers that I can't afford
to make my garden pretty
I watch the butterflies and bees
the white-cheeked rosellas in the trees
as they dance the merry waltz of spring
and we all put our face-masks on
and roses don't understand social distance
I can't recall freedom like that
and will there ever come a time
when crowds don't make me nervous
and elbows are replaced with lips again...
when I've too much time to sit and think
I pull out some paper and a bottle of ink
and write letters to all my friends
the old-fashioned way
all the pages and all the folds
every word and every marking holds
the friendship that I can't extend the way I used to
'cause love letters understand social distance
they've bridged the gap in times gone by
and there will come a time
when crowds don't make me nervous
and elbows are replaced with lips again
and I'll kiss you
